Skill

Let the Moment Pass

Allow emotional intensity to decrease without forcing an immediate resolution.

Before you use this with another personUse communication, repair, return, or contact only when it is lawful and the other person is willing. If a court order limits contact, location, or communication, follow it exactly. A coping or communication skill never creates permission to call, text, message, visit, follow, return, or use another person to pass a message.
What it is

Letting the moment pass means allowing emotional intensity to decrease without trying to force an immediate answer, decision, apology, resolution, or agreement.

How to do it
Notice the urge for immediate resolution.
Remind yourself that delay is allowed.
Choose a neutral activity.
Avoid repeatedly checking for a response.
Revisit the issue only if contact is lawful, appropriate, and wanted.
