Recognize Blame, Denial, and Minimization

Notice common ways people reduce discomfort about their own behavior.

What it is

Blame moves responsibility outward, denial rejects what occurred, and minimization makes the behavior smaller than it was.

How to do it
Ask whether you are blaming.
Ask whether you are denying.
Ask whether you are minimizing.
Restate the event using specific behavioral language.
